Xylitol for oral health & another dentist on the topic of receding gum tissue and how to regrow it.
*Not the rest of the post I have in the works - a follow-up on dental health. Not all the recommendations match Dr. Jorgensen's advice.
Revolutionary advice - avoid dental cleanings while regrowing gum tissue. Protect your biofilm layer within the mouth. That was my gut reaction to the idea of ‘deep scraping’ of my dental pockets in order to ‘scrape’ out pathogens - uh, that sounds like a lot of tissue damage and an increased risk of pathogens getting places they don’t belong.
Stop flossing, reduce acidity and between meal snacking or acidic beverages, and massage the gums with a tooth brush that is not too soft. Dr. Ellie’s system uses the powers of essential oils within the Original or Cool Mint types of Listerine (and not any of the other flavors - stick with the product she is recommending as it is the ingredient list that counts). Original Listerine uses Eucalyptus, Peppermint and/or Wintergreen, and Thyme essential oils based on the phytonutrients listed as Active Ingredients: Eucalyptol, Menthol, Methyl Salicylate, and Thymol.

According to Dr. Ellie Phillips, her recommended dental strategy reduces plaque, strengthens the tooth enamel, and reduces the need for dental cleanings.

Work on improving gum health and reducing plaque bacteria instead and better mineralization will be shinier and seem whiter. Tooth enamel is actually clear, not white. . . . Oh.
And a third dentist, Gum Chewing + Xylitol, Mark Burhenne, DDS, on the topic of xylitol - yes it is good for dental health. He recommends looking for a xylitol gum that has a concentration of 65% or more xylitol. People with TMJ pain or clicking/popping of the jaw may be better off not chewing gum but the xylitol is helpful. Xylitol is a naturally sweet but calorie free chemical that helps immune function.
Dr. Burhenne recommends the xylitol containing Xlear nasal spray for reducing oral pathogens that can also reside in the nasal passages and can be a cause of neumonia in the lungs.
Frequency of use of xylitol during the day seems to be more important than increasing quantity used. Four to five exposures of the teeth to xylitol throughout the day showed greatest protection. It may also be particularly good for pregnant people to use xylitol throughout the day for tooth health and it seems to help the developing fetus too.
Frequency of sipping acidic or sweet beverages adds risk compared to having a sweet or acidic thing during a meal or brief snack followed by some alkaline reset for the saliva. How long are the teeth being bathed in the sugary or acidic substance? All the time and during the night too because you didn’t brush or use other dental care methods?

Xlear nasal spray products may also protect against CoV infections from taking hold. They are preventive rather than treatment once an infection is established. Very early treatment of coronavirus can help prevent a more severe illness by stopping the virus in the nose and not letting them get into the lungs. Our non-specific IgA antibodies in the nose are designed to stop any type of coronavirus while it is still in the nose.
