The arteries in that part of the ear are not large. "relatively tenuous blood supply to the structures of the pinna " https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK525973/

If one is bleeding and has ducked down with the head to the side, it could be simple blood trickling, not arterial spray. The arteries supplying the ear are behind and in front of the ear - not at the top.
