go for it! Sounds a little crunchy for a smoothie though.
The amount of pomegranate peel used medicinally is a tiny amount - du not smoothie up whole pomegranate. Just use the edible seeds and I use about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon inner peel per serving and I only use the outer rind in tea or extract. It is too high in tannins to eat I think.
Dr. Mercola has a pomegranate product I've heard some people find helpful. Any product is going to be kind of expensive for the amount of pomegranate that you are getting.
The fiber of the inner pith is part of the benefit so a 1/4-1/2 teaspoon is providing fiber that would not be in a tiny extract capsule. Plus, capsules too often are made from gelatin which would be a glyphosate source if it was made from commercially reared cow products.
I would never bother with Amazon if Vitacost and/or Piping Rock carry whatever is in consideration. I didn't check the latter yet, but the former carries whole fruit and VitaGranate®, FWIW.
Pomegranate peel is so potent and so helpful that the primary thing is to consume some of it in any way that you like but don't over heat and use it while not yellowed or browned. preserve it somehow so that it stays mostly pale whitish (inner pith). The outer rind air dries quite well.

Can you recommend any good commercial pomegranate peel extracts?

Here is my post discussing pomegranate products on the market and why I use the fruit and simply preserve some peel for summer off-season months. https://denutrients.substack.com/p/where-to-find-pomegranate-products

"Still practically free too, if you make your own with a fresh pomegranate."
As pomegranates are far from cheap in Australia, a tried and true recipe would help?
Just eating the inner pith fresh, dehydrated or frozen is how I use it primarily. About 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon fresh per serving.
I use the outer rind dried or fresh in tea or a stronger extract. it only keeps a couple weeks in the fridge so I freeze extra extract. This more recent post has photos and directions for how I made an outer rind extract that I am using slightly diluted as mouthwash (follow with an alkaline rinse - baking soda in water, swish). https://open.substack.com/pub/denutrients/p/essential-oils-are-fast-the-right?r=os7nw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Is VitaGranate® better than the whole fruit, which is cheaper?
Never heard of it, sorry. I would guess that whole fruit is cheaper but I would need to look into it.
