Zinc being necessary to the maintenance of epithelial tissue, it is anything but a trace nutrient.

Trace nutrient as opposed to the macronutrients; protein, carbohydrates, fats, fiber and alcohol. "Trace" is most typically used in reference to trace minerals which are needed in smaller amounts than bone building calcium, phosphorus and magnesium or the electrolytes sodium and potassium. "Micronutrients" refers to vitamins and minerals and would be the direct opposite to "Macronutrients."
