JD - As always excellent sleuthing. Licorice can cause potassium levels to fall leading to the aforementioned side effects. Unfortunately, DGL removes the terpenoid which is one of your friends.
They can/could randomly, the problem is identifying it as a thing to be removed, rather than being random sand on the beach.
White blood cells remove things marked with an antibody for example. Larger things. Pomegranate peel helps by having phytonutrients that like to clump things and bind with minerals.

I don't use the DGL kind. I do have to keep up regular veggie eating for potassium.
