"Let's Talk Iodine" with Dr. Brownstein, Aluminum with Chris Exley, and take a peak at the dystopian-comedy Idiocracy, 2006.
Generationally, iodine deficiency has been accumulating and the current guidelines for pregnancy and lactation are likely too low. Low iodine and/or excess aluminum, may lead to breast cancer.
A Quora comment suggests the take home message of the movie Idiocracy is that we shouldn’t be so apathetic and not-action oriented in our lives now. That would be good. I think it has too much basis in reality though, with the impact of insufficient iodine for optimal fetal development compared to the amount of bromide and fluoride in our food and water supply.

Can we take any message / moral story from the movie Idiocracy?
Firstly, it should be noted that this is a low budget comedy, that was made quickly just for laughs, and wasn't meant to be analyzed the way it has been over the past eight years since its release.
A lot of criticism of this movie suggests that it promotes eugenics, specifically in the introduction. I don't think this was the directors intent. ( Maybe planned parenthood? )
---
In terms of a specific message:It's pretty clearly stated.
There are several references to the phrase " lead, follow or get out of the way ", and the protagonist has always " gotten out of the way. "
Choosing the path of least resistance, he chooses a career that allows him to watch TV in the basement until retirement. His colleague observes, ""You aren't supposed to pick "get out of the way" ... When he ( the commanding officer ) says that, he is trying to shame you into leading...""
Finally, near the end of the film the protagonist pleads "Tell people to read more books... stay in school. I think the world got this way because of guys like me, I never did anything with my life..."
The message being that passivity and laziness are responsible for the devolution of culture.
I think this is interesting in that I can't think of another fictional dystopian world that is brought about by the actions or inactions of the everyman. Usually the apocalypse is brought about by world governments or environmental disaster. One could make the case that over population or climate change apocalypses fit this description, but none have so specifically called out laziness, i.e. the simple lack of interest in our own improvement being the cause of our extinction.”
When I saw the movie Idiocracy as a new release I knew it was already happening - three generations of children born since the 1950s when the US swapped bromide for iodide in wheat flour and added fluoride to drinking water.
The premise of the movie is that smart people had fewer children than not smart people and not smart children became all of the population in the future. A time traveler type of situation left an average person from our time in the dumbed down future. Everyone there didn’t know what to think of him.

Dr. Brownstein gets into some dosing details in the question/answer section towards the end and when breast cancer is a concern. He mentioned 25 mg of iodine if breast cancer is present and women with larger breasts have a larger need for iodine … makes sense.
In an interview with Chris Exley (the aluminum guy) by Lies are Unbekoming (Substack) we learned today that fluoride’s biggest risks to health as a toxin are due to its affects on aluminum which is associated with Alzheimer’s dementia and autism. It takes a lot more excess of fluoride to see skeletal effects of fluorosis. He may not have been considering its effects on thyroid hormone when iodine is deficient however. Aluminum may play a role in breast cancer but research focused on antiperspirants as the source have had mixed results. Use of aluminum containing underarm cosmetic products (UCP) was found to be associated with more aluminum within breast tissue though and at levels that can cause cancer to occur in a petri-dish type cell experiment. (Mandriota, 2017)
“In this issue of EBioMedicine, a new retrospective study (Linhart et al., 2017) analyzing the data from 209 BC cases and 209 healthy controls, revealed an association between self-reported UCP use and BC risk. The association was statistically significant for patients who reported using UCP more than once a day when they were under the age of 30. Importantly, this study also measured the aluminium content of a large subsample of BC cases and controls, and found that self-reported UCP use correlates with higher aluminium content in the breast. It is worth highlighting that the concentrations of aluminium measured in BC cases are in the range of those that transform mammary epithelial cells in vitro (Sappino et al., 2012, Mandriota et al., 2016).” (Mandriota, 2017)
Bizarrely, hypothyoidism seems to be linked to less risk of breast cancer while hyperthyroidism is linked to more risk. (varied search results - google)
Woot there it is - exact same search term on Brave gets me results that suggests hypothyroidism can precede breast cancer and may be a pattern of concern. (varied search results - Brave) ‘Idiocracy’ by design?
Dr. Brownstein said that the only people who aren’t iodine deficient these days are the people who he has seen previously as patients or who have read his book or attended his seminars. That includes me - I attended a seminar in 2005 and the high dose iodine helped me immensely - I should have taken selenium too though.
Seaweed is an inadequate iodine source per Dr. Brownstein because it may also become a rich source of bromide and fluoride as the sea becomes more polluted with the minerals.
“Iodine deficiency can lead to diabetes.”

“Don’t be fearful of iodine. It is a treatment for Hashimoto’s disease and for Grave’s disease.”

See this post for my story of fibrocystic breast pain improving with high dose iodine: Iodine and an Old Lie, still being spread, (Substack).
This post is related to fibrocystic breast pain - but the symptom is called “dense breasts” instead - and it has been linked to breast cancer risk. Iodine would likely help improve the dense breast tissue and reduce long term cancer risk. “Dense Breasts” and cancer risk likely equals bromide/fluoride & chloride excess and lack of iodine. I recently updated this post: Iodine in pregnancy & lactation; also estradiol, anandamide and female tendency for a good mood. (Substack)
This post is mind-blowing and extremely sad once you start thinking about the ramifications: “Brain dead”, “comatose”, or iodine deficient? (Substack)

Interesting comment that hypothyroidism precedes breast ca. I have heard 3 MDs over the past yr mouth off some study that supplementing with iodine causes hypothyroidism.
No point in an argument. Requested a printed copy supporting their statement.
No paper proof yet.
Idiocracy is a cult classic. I encourage folks to view it. It is sooo relevant.
