If you have a fireplace (or woodstove), one trick for staying warm is indoor camping - pitch a small tent right in front of the fireplace and toss blankets over it. Helps retain heat. Those mylar emergency blankets (very cheap on e-bay) come in handy in these situations.
I specialize in composting, rainwater, and food growing design. Other people will have to do all the other stuff.
