I guess «their colonies» is intended to mean «monkey colonies» here, not «Danish colonies».
The last tropical Danish colony ended in 1917 (Danish West Indies sold to the USA). Danish colonies in Africa (modern day Ghana) and India ended in mid-19th century. I believe there are no monkeys in Faroe islands and Greenland (outside of military bases, that is :).
One possibility would be that monkeypox has been around (and global) for quite some time, but was mistaken for light cases of smallpox while the latter was common; so it took time to realize it's a different thing.
Not on the article. Excellent writing.
Why that house committee. They have no energy or commerce??
Well, vaccines are mega big commerce - lots of cost and profit even if the taxpayer may not see it at the doctor's office.
I should read / skim the report before commenting further.
Many thanks for your research and helpful advice.
Very welcome! There is a new summary in the document version. The post got too long so I made this part separate.
Much of what you have said was confirmed in Edward Hoopers book about HIV, called The River, in 1999, when it was published.
The rest of my summary is more about selfcare or medication management.

That was a very interesting tome !!
Thanks. I guess I should post the rest of it.

Okay, thanks Rat. But the monkeys came from Singapore.... not Nigeria. So, we still have some gaps in the narrative.

But this is just my guess.
I'm guessing that it was created in Copenhagen and spread to Nigeria in vaccines. That is just my guess though. ;-)
I added your first reply to the post. Thanks Rat.
*probably a lab accident creation at that stage of GoF work.
