Happy International Women's Day, Dietitian's Day, and happy birthday to me!
Multipurpose day to celebrate - so I made Avocado seed cake again.
The recipe worked and was kind of nice to just follow a recipe - novel way for me to bake for a while now. I have a basic ratio that I follow and it will vary a little with whatever ingredients I chose.
The avocado seed cake is a little tangy, between the stevia sweetener and the pomegranate peel. Stevia can add a bitter accent and I don’t always use it.

Happy Birthday to me! The Hospice aide was surprised to find out I am 57. I was surprised to find out that Dr. Zelenko was younger than me when he passed away (age 48).
Take care of your cytoplasm so it can take care of your mitochondria, so they can take care of you.
Happy birthday to my mitochondria too! They are ancient compared to me, from my mom, grandma, and really great grandma's from ancient times.
My youthfulness tips - DHEA supplements starting at age 35 for men and women; 75 mg/day for males and 5 mg/day for females as some of it will be converted into testosterone which women need to, just not as much as men. I learned of the need for preserving the ability to form new muscle tissue when I was 35, conveniently, so I have been taking it ever since - as I remember. But I try to always have some in my daily vitamin boxes.
Epsom salt - bath morning!
Wild Yam Progesterone cream for women starting as soon as peri-menopausal symptoms begin, which can be far earlier than people realize. I started using it around age 35 or not long after as I was experiencing some night sweats, and increased crankiness which I generally am not lacking anyway, so I had no need for any extra crankiness.
I still use both DHEA and Wild Yam progesterone cream and am glad to be through the mood swings of ‘the shift’ into full menopause. However, I am sad to have lost my abs strength and gained risk of an apple shape weight gain though - donut middle instead of pear thighs. It is a change, new me. I will just try to not gain a donut middle. The abs are oddly as if they think they are pregnant and don’t need to bother anymore - relax and let it all hang out. It takes more conscious effort to sit up straight with a firm gut. The slouch seems the desire.
Exercise - core strengthening and stretching the sides vertically or side to side. Denise Austin for a better role model.
Tips are included in the following video by Dr. Kristie Ennis for resisting menopausal weight gain - she also explains that an increase in Follicular Stimulating Hormone seems to be the reason for easy weight gain/
The change in estrogen and balance of female to male hormones shifts weight gain patterns to be more like the male pattern which is abdominal focused - the beer pregnancy belly - I don’t want one of those. Sometimes motivation arrives with focusing on what we don’t want.
So, I need to:
get plenty of sleep, reduce stress, and green tea may help, (*or pomegranate peel or edible sumac/Zaatar spice)
avoid a high carb diet and get plenty of healthy fats instead and enough protein and veggies. *May not all have been mentioned in the brief video - she did highlight that avoiding fat does not help, we do need good fats and enough for satiety.
include both strength training and interval exercise in my daily life - periodic increases in heart rate followed by a slowdown throughout an active day would be similar to interval training.
work on core strength training.
I have also added a hesperidin supplement to my weekly routine called AMPK Metabolic Activator (Life Extension) as a citrus bioflavonoid that might help weight without the rest of the citrus that might activate mast cells and increase histamine. It seems helpful. I’ve used most of one month’s supply, slower than that, ~3-5 days a week. I take it in the morning when feeling congested too.
AMPK Metabolic Activator contains 130 mg calcium and Hesperidin [from orange extract (fruit)] (500 mg) and Actiponin® gynostemma extract (leaf) (450 mg) in a vegetarian tablet (largish in case swallowing is a problem - it might be).

You make 57 look like 37!
But you lost this Italian with that birthday "cake"🤌
How does it even hold together?
you are very creative and original I'll give you that! I may just try it too as curious but ain't holding my breath! Or maybe I will hold my breath as I eat it;)
If we lived close and borders were open I'd drive over and bring you some homemade Tiramisu ;)
Not the keto kind either..
Cuz well, life's too short not to eat real bday cake:) even for health conscious dietisians;)
May God richly bless your year and refresh you, as you refresh others!

Happy Birthday to You! 💚Great tips here!
I started taking DHEA after my third of four daughters. I was 38 and feeling very off. I had a hellacious menopause because I had two preteens, two young daughters and was going through a divorce, plus I had adrenal fatigue, without a doubt! I tried taking Pregnenolone for sleep recently and it made me have horrendous night sweats, so I stopped it. I take an Ayurvedic formula that does wonders for me- Essential Female plus TCM for the liver. I need melatonin, magnesium, plus a special chocolate to be able to sleep well. I’ve had sleep issues since I was a child probably from a few head injuries.
