Thanks! I found out from my salicylate sensitivity. Black seed oil - a teaspoon serving/medicinal dose may be providing ~ 500 mg aspirin equivalent but I would need to substantiate that with a reference check - rough memory.

Any ideas for eye issues like cataract and macular issues? Maybe you can write a post on those.

Thanks for asking. Short answer: Astaxanthin is my first thought for macular degeneration - a carotenoid being used as a supplement.

https://www.naturaleyecare.com/nutrients/carotenoids/astaxanthin.asp

Giannaccare G, Pellegrini M, Senni C, Bernabei F, Scorcia V, Cicero AFG. Clinical Applications of Astaxanthin in the Treatment of Ocular Diseases: Emerging Insights. Mar Drugs. 2020 May 1;18(5):239. doi: 10.3390/md18050239. PMID: 32370045; PMCID: PMC7281326. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7281326/

// I can use astaxanthin because it doesn't convert to active vitamin A (I over-convert). Astaxanthin may help against cognitive inflammation too. /// other carotenoids are also recommended for macular health.

Thought number 2 - kaempferol / Kamu kamu golden berries "Kaempferol Protects Against Retinal Photoreceptor Degeneration in a Mouse Model of Light-Induced Retinal Injury" https://liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/jop.2022.0128 *Kamu kamu are actually a type of tomato - 'ground cherry' and is a salicylate rich food and is also an excellent source of vitamin C.

/// Also avoid blue light excess. I use iristech.co app on my laptop to cut blue light https://iristech.co/

Edit/extra: Traditional Chinese Medicine approach is to improve liver health in order to protect eyesight during aging. Glutathione promoters include kaempferol and carotenoids and polyphenols from berries or pomegranate. https://www.liversupport.com/the-link-between-macular-degeneration-and-liver-health/

I cured my mum of the "dry" type of macular degeneration in 2005 with a pretty simple dietary change.

It hasn't returned. (She'll be 93)

Her optometrist & specialist, upon retesting after 2 years to observe the "degeneration" found no trace of the disease.

When she told them what she'd been doing, her eye specialist laughed and said oh, then you never HAD it. (Except that it was HE who had INITIALLY examined her. Via referral by her optometrist.)

It was also HE who had diagnosed her "untreatable" type of macular degeneration. "Dry".

(The wet type can apparently be treated with some sort of eye injections.)

In any event: Mum added red and blue berries, spinach and kale to her diet. That was it. (I believe she takes 20 mg of lutein, with zeaxanthin but only now & then? Not often because I shop for her and it's never on her list...)

No sign of disease at 2 years, nor since.

That is awesome! Bilberries/berries and greens would be adding a variety of Nrf2 promoters and glutathione is helpful per this article I just found on liver health/TCM approach to preventing age related macular degeneration. https://www.liversupport.com/the-link-between-macular-degeneration-and-liver-health/

Love essential oils. Two horses, one liked lavender and turned away from the hyssop blend. The other one was excited about the hyssop, and even wanted a lick. Apparently they know something!
