JD - A tour de force... Mannose affects cancer cell growth by interfering with glucose metabolism. In terms of dosage, a person would need to ingest very large amounts of mannose to match the amounts that were given to the mice in the experiments. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9136145/

I got tired.Thamks NN. 🐰🕜 There were more rabbits holes to explore. And a major rewrite for organization. I learned as I went along. Unplanned exploration.

OK,, NN, what is Rule 39?

She does go where the helping hand nudges, I have noticed that too.

This is the only place where I have seen the good and bad of the biofilms. If it weren't for Jennifer I would be trying to blast them all to smithereens.

Aww thanks Phar - Gibbs from NCIS rule #39 - There are no coincidences.

For whatever reason I was shown that info yesterday - was just an intense 4-6 hour writing thing. Me, somewhere in the depths of my mind, um, wut happened?

Do you have a source of sea weeds to recommend? What sea weed or combination of sea weeds would you recommend and in what amount?

Thank You for all the work you put in to your substack posts. You introduce me to a new world of health related information. Thank You.

Yours Truely,

James

Kombu is high in salicylate and is generally added to soup broth or a batch of beans, a one inch piece. It reduces gassiness of beans and makes the broth creamier.

Wakame is the lettuce like seaweed used to make a cold vegetable salad in Thai or Vietnamese cuisine.

This post has a menu handout by a different dietitian to which I added a section on types of seaweeds. Eating a serving (one tablespoon dried roughly) daily or 5 times a week would be a good dietary goal or any versus none. https://open.substack.com/pub/denutrients/p/meals-for-trace-nutrients-iodine?r=os7nw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Hijiki is a seaweed that has been found to have some contaminant and arame is similar and doesn't have that concern.

I have used this Emerald Cove brand https://www.vitacost.com/emerald-cove-pacific-arame-non-gmo-1-76-oz-1?&CSRC=GPF-PA-023547916313-google_pla_gen_pro_food+%26+beverages-&network=g&keywordname=&device=c&adid=92700074073516566&matchtype=&gclick=Cj0KCQjwztOwBhD7ARIsAPDKnkCrEYfquwY0imloXmeZUMASVBl6yai9-LyWJkC9b3izUG4D7aTlulEaAifBEALw_wcB&ds_agid=58700008150894568&targetid=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwztOwBhD7ARIsAPDKnkCrEYfquwY0imloXmeZUMASVBl6yai9-LyWJkC9b3izUG4D7aTlulEaAifBEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Eden Foods is a reputable brand too.

Very beautiful comment about our cells being like the ocean, having to regulate themselves constantly. In the end, all we can do is try to support then and hope they manage to deal with all the environemntal stressors and of course their own genetic make-up. Also intetesting to read again that whole fruit extract seems to work better than isolates. I was looking for some pomegranate supplements, since they don't sell any whole pomegranate here, and will keep that in mind. Thank you for your posts.

Thanks! Bulk dried pomegranate peel is available for sale online, but small independent Etsy sales may be or a few more expensive health companies.

Sumac grows lots of places and it has some similar benefits as pomegranate. I haven't looked into whether it also has arabinose, xylose, or mannose.

ok I will try to find some peel online here in EU again! I have been using pomegranate sirup from the nearby Turkish supermarket in the meantime. That's also where I have been buying sumach (albeit ground with added salt, the former probably enhances oxidation), I didn't know sumach had special health benefits. I have been making dressings and sauces with sumach and pomegranate sirup though, its a typical combination in the Near East.

Pomegranate syrup probably has some medicinal value. The peel is pressed with the seeds to make juice and a stronger pressing would get more of the bitter peel nutrients.

Very interesting combination - yes, probably is adding value to each to use them together.

So much sounds familiar from when my sister did macrobiotics 40 years ago! I still soak the brown rice for 8 hours before cooking, I think that develops some nucleotides? .... anything to avoid eating sardines :-> Also adding the kombu, I haven't been but I think I could manage that if I put my mind to it!

Soaking helps breakdown phytic acid and oxalates. Helps digestibility and mineral absorption.

The kombu is nice in soup but was adding to my salicylate excess. I haven't tried it since getting a bit better. Too much is still a problem for me.

Deceptively small piece adds to the soup. Taking out the piece before it totally dissolves is done. It isn't eaten the way other seaweeds are.
