Stanley vs Yeti, became a meme
A and B group testing was a suggestion in the comments, thanks & link to Demi Pietchell's memedrop #8 which clears up the mystery.
It looks like the alpha and beta group testing (of subliminal messaging “Go buy an insulated cup”) would have been more woke Stanley buyers and maybe more conservative Yeti buyers?
I am sharing a selection of Stanley memes but the linked post has more.
This is the Stanley thermos at my (dad’s) house. It is an old US brand, a working man’s brand, good for construction sites, that apparently went Woke.
The story - the guy that made Crocs ugly plastic sandals show up on everyone’s feet, became a marketer level boss at Stanley. His method was to make collaborative limited edition insulated cups in many colors - like Beanie Babies it became a craze, must have the latest limited edition thing. And then a burnt car video went viral in November 2023 in which the Stanley mug seemed mostly undamaged and rattled as if it contained ice still. The company sent her a new Stanley cup and bought her a new car. The free advertising probably was well worth it.
Maybe he also hired some DARPA connected research agency for help with the marketing.
Or maybe people just really flock to trends because it is an innate instinct in us to flock to the popular new thing, whether the popular new restaurant, movie, vacation spot or product. Scroll down to section 7.7: Our instincts may be based in actions learned by more distant relatives. (effectivecare.info)
The Stanley cup craze: How a 110-year-old company went mega-viral. “Stanley was founded in 1913. Why is everyone suddenly so thirsty for its cups?”

Both are relatable - we understand what we are familiar with and when we don’t understand, explaining usually would take too long. Jokes aren’t funny if you have to explain them.
Internet culture is particularly mysterious, ocean depths of symbolic joke imagery may be involved intertwined with current events over the years.
Generally, yes, this is me. D’oh.
Yeti, rugged outdoorsman ice chests and other camping gear.

I for one do not understand the purpose of carrying around a thermos at all.
Coffee or tea taste better when you have to make some effort, at least travel from the point A to point B to get to them. There might be an instant/delayed gratification aspect to this.

It's a thermos cup, keeps hot liquids HOT and cold liquids COLD. For many of our discerning citizenry, the eternal question is... HOT or COLD but, how do it know?
As for subliminal messaging, for most of our discerning citizenry (one that has been bred to be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but is unable to think) it would do them well to take these messages about the MSM from 1990 to heart...
