Histamine and gut dysbiosis; Minerals Matter!; Two webinars & cordyceps mushrooms.
Some probiotic species may make a histamine problem worse. Others can help. Post too long for email - screenshots from the histamine webinar re the LPS endotoxin. Cordyceps or pomegranate protect.
Fullscript webinar: Taming Histamine - The Role of Dysbiosis and GI Dysfunction in Histamine Regulation. Speaker: Shawn Manske, ND (Youtube)
LPS endotoxin is one of the negatives of gut dysbiosis which increase histamine by inhibiting the DAO enzyme needed to breakdown histamine. Screenshots below are from the video presentation by Shawn Manske, ND.
“Dysbiosis of the gut microbiota was observed in the histamine intolerance group who, in comparison with the healthy individuals, had a significantly lower proportion of Prevotellaceae, Ruminococcus, Faecalibacterium and Faecablibacterium prausnitzii, which are bacteria related to gut health. They also had a significantly higher abundance of histamine-secreting bacteria, including the genera Staphylococcus and Proteus, several unidentified genera belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae and the species Clostridium perfringens and Enterococcus faecalis. A greater abundance of histaminogenic bacteria would favor the accumulation of high levels of histamine in the gut, its subsequent absorption in plasma and the appearance of adverse effects, even in individuals without DAO deficiency.” (Sánchez-Pérez, et al., 2022)
Faecablibacterium prausnitzii is a butyrate producing beneficial species. (Parsaei, et al., 2021) Prevotellaceae is also a butyrate producing species. (Chen, et al., 2022) Ruminococcus is too. (Moraes, de Almeida-Pittito, Ferreira, 2019)
“The association between diet and the gut microbiome composition has also been explored in the context of the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), since the bacterial composition is decisive for triggering intestinal inflammation [75]. The abundance of certain commensal bacteria is reduced in patients with IBD, especially those belonging to Clostridium cluster XIVa and Clostridium cluster IV, such as Ruminococcus, Roseburia, Eubacterium, and Faecalibacterium, known by their ability to produce butyrate [76]. Taking into consideration the antiinflammatory role of butyrate via the nuclear factor κB inhibition, this pathway is supposed to be activated in IBD [26]. Therefore, the importance of fiber-enriched diet was raised for individuals with IBD due to the expected modulation of the gut microbiome composition by inducing an increase in the butyrate-producing bacteria.” (Moraes, de Almeida-Pittito, Ferreira, 2019)
*So these are the anaerobic species of the colon which need plenty of zinc and resistant starches from raw fruit, vegetables, and cooked and chilled starches like tapioca in pudding, Bubble tea bubbles or Vietnamese salad roll wrappers. Any cooked and chilled rice, potato or pasta dish will have more resistant starch content then when eaten freshly cooked and still hot.
Cordyceps mushrooms - mitigate LPS toxicity, anti cancer and other benefits
The mushroom cordyceps and its polysaccharide codycepin could help, see Figure 4 below, (Shweta, Komal, 2023) or pomegranate could help. (Qabaha, et al., 2019)
“In vitro, C. militaris ethanol extracts inhibited DPPH, superoxide, hydroxyl radicals, and low-density lipoproteins. In addition, treatment with C. militaris was found to be an effective therapy for inflammation-related neurodegenerative effects [37]. Cordycepin was able to reduce the amount of MDA that was induced by LPS as well as the production of inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α) as demonstrated below in Fig. 4 [38].” (Shweta, Komal, 2023)
I was trying to find out if cordyceps mushrooms are a sulfite source and didn’t find anything suggesting it is or isn’t a source — I found more positive research about its use as a Traditional Chinese Medicinal mushroom. Cordyceps has numerous beneficial nutrients, is anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and may also be helpful against chimeric spike issues (Shweta, Komal, 2023) from CoV or the jabs.
Codycepin, a polysaccharide found in the mushrooms, is a Cox-2 inhibitor so cordycep mushrooms might cause salicylate sensitivity symptoms for me (I bought a bag of them dried and am ‘reading the manual’, after the fact).
“Recent studies showed that COX-2 and iNOS gene expressions were suppressed by cordycepin, one of the major components of C. militaris [34]. C. militaris has been shown to have significant promise as an antioxidant in a number of different investigations.” (Shweta, Komal, 2023)
Too healthy for me maybe. Here is a recipe “Vegan Tom Yum Soup with Cordyceps” and other mushrooms - no tofu - no quality protein source makes it a not nutritionally balanced meal - and somewhat high fat. (farwestfungi.com) The simpler cooking directions are soak your cordyceps mushrooms for about five minutes and then add to your cooking pot for a few more minutes. They cook up soft and retain the bright color, with a mild flavor. Warnings online suggest caution buying any tinctures/powders/extracts that claim to be cordyceps. It may be fake. The dried mushrooms look like the photo below.
Cordycep mushrooms are a good source of selenium in a bioavailable form. (Hu, et al., 2019)
Minerals Matter!
Somewhat related in that inflammation increases need for magnesium and certain other nutrients. This Fullscript webinar about minerals and health is excellent: Why Minerals Matter, speaker - Kaely McDevitt MS, RD, LD.
Kaely includes low stomach acid production as a root cause of digestive symptoms. Thyroid issues related to low iodine are included and adrenal effects from chronic stress on mineral status and the treatment needs to restore balance and uptake of calcium into tgr bone natrix.
