Gastric cancer, H. pylori and EBV coinfections, and My Twitter account is restored!
Pomegranate peel is of course going to be helpful for H. pylori, EBV or gastric cancer. so would spironolactone.
I am still working on the heart protocol - it is in the getting longer phase and maybe I could share it in a series except that it is nice to get it fully organized first.
Retinoid Toxicity brief update - I like Tart cherries and tried to add just a few, and that even seems to be too much of the retinoids. To truly test the theory - try restricting a diet to see if symptoms improve - it is looking like really restricted is needed. Feeling better is worth it but not easy.
Just interesting - related to the Retinoid Toxicity topic possibly. - Gastric cancer is linked to H. pylori and EBV history in this paper, though both may be correlated to underlying issues of gut dysbiosis rather than causally linked to each other:
‘Nano-based Approaches for Diagnosis and Therapy of Gastric Cancer’, (Rai, et al., 2023)
Correlation does not prove causation, (but it doesn’t disprove it either), but it suggests it, so looking for other possible causes is a need, or it might be an unrelated coincidence.
Gastric cancer, H. pylori, and EBV may all occur due to a fourth problem - gut dysbiosis from a diet that supports an unhealthy microbiome.
“Conclusion: H. pylori infection contributes significantly to gastric microbial dysbiosis that may be involved in carcinogenesis. Successful H. pylori eradication potentially restores gastric microbiota to a similar status as found in uninfected individuals, and shows beneficial effects on gut microbiota.” (Guo, et al., 2020)
Maybe the H. pylori infection came first.
Or maybe a coinfection occurred due to unhealthy immune or glycocalyx/cytoplasm function:
“Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) are two pathogens associated with the development of various human cancers. The coexistence of both microorganisms in gastric cancer specimens has been increasingly reported, suggesting that crosstalk of both pathogens may be implicated in the carcinogenesis process.” (Dávila-Collado, et al., 2020)
The coinfection is also seen in more severe cases of pediatric gastritis. (Cárdenas-Mondragón, et al., 2013) The chronic inflammation affects DNA damage repair.
Nrf2 promoting phytonutrients are needed then and healthier diet and cytoplasm too probably. Stomach problems generally lead to lack of B vitamins and apple cider vinegar with meals might help digestion.
Pomegranate peel extract is very effective against H. pylori in animal and in vitro studies, improving gastritis symptoms in the animal study and superior to antibiotic treatment for reducing infected cells. (Mayyas, et al., 2021) Pomegranate peel extract is also effective against cancer, particularly reducing metastasis risk.
Literature review on pomegranate peel extract or juice and cancer treatment, primarily in vitro or in vivo studies. Whole fruit versus arils alone “has an enormous impact” on the polyphenol content and antioxidant potential. More clinical trials are needed. Liver and prostate cancer cells seem to be inhibited in growth with no negative effects on normal cells. Inhibits MAP Kinases, PI3K/AKT/mTor, and NF-κB,
Reducing:
inflammation related to CO-2 and iNOS,
cell proliferation related to PCNA and Ki67,
angiogenesis related to VEGF and CD-31, and
metastasis related to MMPs. (Figure 2, Syed, et al, 2013
Random find - a pomegranate peel extract for wholesale purchase, bulk orders. (Pomegranate Skin Extract (naturalin.com))
Heart protocol now overlapping with EBV:
“Four years ago, the U of U Health research team found that spironolactone, a medicine routinely used to treat heart failure, has an unexpected antiviral activity against EBV. They discovered the drug targets an EBV protein, called SM, that the Swaminathan lab and others previously showed is essential for EBV replication. (Kiefer, 2020)
Pomegranate peel extract is also helpful unless against EBV and SARS-CoV-@ and HIV-1 and other viral infections, or bacterial, or parasitic. Really quite helpful, as it also promotes healthy microbiome species and corrects microRNA imbalance. Amazing stuff, pom peel.
If you don’t have pomegranate peel, edible sumac powder (or the mix Za'atar) has some similar phytonutrients and so do goji berries. And so do green peas and green tea and red raspberries. Eat food, it has anti-virals!
Sumac is that shrubby bush that grows along highways all over the place - practically as easy to find as dandelions.
Make sure you avoid the white berried poisonous kind of sumac though - <tip. Or just buy edible sumac spice at an Middle Eastern grocery market, or Za’atar seasoning may include “dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, toasted sesame seeds, and salt," in addition to sumac. (thespruceeats.com)
