Harold and Maude might be my favorite if I had to pick, or favorite at this moment. The soundtrack by the artist Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, is earworm material that I was reminded of when I singing recently and someone asked if it was The Carpenters. At that moment I didn’t remember, on the spot, what I was singing. It was a song done by The Carpenters “Sing” (lyrics.com) « singalong site - you can play the mini video embed and sing along with the lyrics.
This one is a favorite too:
“If you want to sing out, sing out,
If you want to be free, be free,
It’s a wonderful way to be,
you know that it is, you know that it is, you know that it is.” - (Cat Stevens) / Yusuf Islam
In the singalong clip montage, mini movie, a scene is included where Maude had borrowed a car in order to liberate a city sidewalk tree to replant in the countryside. Harold was invited along for the ride. Then a policeman pulled them over in the car after the tree had been transplanted . . . she liberates his motorcycle and they ride away.
What makes a great movie? purchase worthy soundtrack, moving message - life changing even-impactful - a new way to look at the world, interesting characters and great acting, beautiful background scenery and set locations, fancy car demolition, eccentric and fascinating art. This may be the greatest movie ever. But that is very debatable. It is certainly a very great movie.
Comments with your favorites would be cool.
I picked up a free copy, unopened of “Pay It Forward” - VCR video but that is what is working on the parent TV system currently. Holiday viewing - old school style.

One of my favorite laugh makers was Peter Sellers who made so many delights.
A friend was his nurse.

I’m a huge Elton John fan. He told an interviewer he was offered the part of Harold by the director when he was just starting his mega career. He says he turned it down because he wanted to focus on his music.
He would have made a cute Harold, though.
