“Study links abnormal electrolytes to eating disorders
A study published in JAMA Network Open found that 18.4% of individuals diagnosed with an eating disorder had had an earlier outpatient electrolyte abnormality, compared with 7.5% of those who had the abnormal electrolyte reading but did not later present with an eating disorder. Too much or too little potassium or sodium and too little phosphorus and a system that is not acidic enough - in other words, electrolytes matter.
From the journal article:
“In terms of prevalence, a study of 1026 consecutive adults admitted for an eating disorder found that at the time of admission, 25.8% had hypokalemia, 14.0% had hyponatremia, and 16.6% had metabolic alkalosis.15” (Hundemer, et al., 2022)

*Yes, I should be working on my Reference List - I achieved 12,000 words (exactly) and have moved on to the tedious part - but that was an interesting article in my email and references are boring. I think of it as a video game - keep clicking until you win (a reference list). (I am not a fan of video games.)
