Dehydration and Respiratory acidosis -- functional dietary care to correct the metabolic acid/alkaline balance.
Potassium Citrate - gentle alkalinity, Pure Maple Syrup - brain food and electrolytes, and a little structured water (has some boron).
Brief update: We have Hospice in place now. My mother was into the final week/days of dying and the ER fluids brought her back briefly, and it was nice to see her smile again, having bean porridge at home once again.
She was glad to get home and seems at peace now - further along in the end days stage, only a brief couple days of awareness. She had slipped out of the bed due to acidosis which is common in dehydration at the end. Image was a few days ago, she is less aware now and losing weight rapidly now.
End stage days it is normal to stop taking liquid or food. Endocannabinoids naturally increase during no food eating (starvation) and the throat stops working well so aspirating fluid, choking hazard becomes a big risk in the end days. Little dips of a water on a stick/sponge or I found a folded paper towel worked well too. Ice chips are recommended but she never used icy things much, too cold I think, a shock like effect.
We hold hands, I sing to her, talk about her husband waiting for her. A calm mind is a peaceful mind. Acidotic is a painful body and upset mind. I have had it more than a few times during my various health issues. Resolving the acidosis calms the muscles, no paralytic drug needed then because the muscles aren't spasming anymore. It is the muscle cramps that hurt quite intensely.
Paralyzing the lung muscles leads to even shallower breathing and that creates Respiratory Acidosis - reducing the breathing rate too much will then lead to more hyperventilating from worsened Carbon Monoxide levels, less exhalation, more accumulation… then if the hyperventilating/panicky breathing is treated with a paralytic-type med, to ‘calm’ it, then the reduced breathing rate will just lead to more Carbon monoxide build-up and worsening of the acidosis in the blood circulation.
“Respiratory acidosis is a state in which decreased ventilation (hypoventilation) increases the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood and decreases the blood's pH (a condition generally called acidosis).” (Wikipedia)
A dietary biohack that helped ease panicky hyperventilating and muscle cramping (also a little morphine too, .25 mg):
She was taking Synthroid and adequate thyroid and adrenal hormone treatment was found to help coma patients. So I crushed her Synthroid tablet, mixed it with 1/2 teaspoon Pure Maple Syrup (electrolytes, ketones, manganese), 1/16th teaspoon of Potassium citrate (for acidity), and a tablespoon of water (structured with boron is what I used). I then gave that in tiny amounts by syringe - it helped her be less muscle cramped and painful. Twice now. She relaxed after it and got a peaceful look instead of grimace of pain and curling up trying to get out of bed. / she now has a medical bed with side rails.
The typical approach is to use more sedating medication, Lorazepam, to semi-paralyze the gasping, hyperventilating lungs, but the lungs are doing that because of the acidosis, so paralyzing lung muscles simply traps the acidosis in the lungs and body more. Providing a bit of potassium citrate helps the body to be less acidotic - roughly.
I have also a lawyer to represent me in the APS investigation or case (I’m not sure what is going on, no further info about that yet.)

I’m glad you are there for your mother. God bless both of you.
this is deeply sad to read but i’m grateful to know your mother has a devoted and knowledgeable care giver in you. lawyers and investigation. the whole system is certainly rigged against any notions of care, isn’t it.
