Signs & Symptoms Analysis from a Functional Perspective, by Dicken Weatherby, N.D. -- sooooo good!
The book I mentioned in the last post by Dicken Weatherby, N.D. is awesome. 🏆 Signs and Symptoms Analysis from a Functional Perspective - A Question by Question Guide, is written for physicians to learn how to use a computerized nutritional assessment questionnaire which is reproduced in the guidebook along with how to score it by hand if the computer program wasn't available.
The guide and questionnaire are fairly easy to understand and use. Some of the screening tests recommended would need to be looked up for more information. This guide could be very useful I think for anyone interested in a more thorough health screening. Recommendations for treatment are included in varied levels of detail, sometimes ready to use, other times more info might need to be sought.
The forms are available for printing for free with an email request.
In my disclaimer at times I have written Please seek guidance from a Functional health professional — but those aren't always available and insurance may not cover their services or somebody the screening tests. This book and the lengthy two volume set by Alex Vasquez are both helpful for figuring out some things for yourself and the screening suggestions could be shown to a standard doctor maybe.
Filling out the questionnaire for myself did reveal that my adrenal health is very bad and my Upper GI and intestinal distress may be due to the excess stress level I have had and low stomach acid levels leading to the almost immediate gassy bloating symptoms.
Food allergies or sensitivities seem a problem too and I had a very high score for low essential fatty acid too.
Each question has a section with more detail and the Appendix of the book includes handout type guidance for nutrient food sources or diet recommendations for different conditions included in the screening sections.
An overview page can be used to plot the symptom burden from each section as High, Moderate, and Low priority. It does seem that I have some issues to work on, but compared to my long-term past, I have fixed some former problem areas already.
My vitamin and minerals sections were somewhat High priority. My inconsistency in taking my supplements is a repairable problem and smoking does seem to be something I should try to limit to only a couple times a day (based on my recent awareness of how much was too much.)
Grinding or clenching teeth at night is a symptom included in Adrenal question set.
The only flaw I see with this book so far is a lack of awareness of Retinoid Toxicity as an often unidentified underlying causal factor — however almost no one except me and a few published researchers on the topic are talking about it.
The book is also a 2004 edition. There may be a newer edition and updated screening questionnaire.
